. . . A seasoned artist might take this pain and translate it into something devastatingly beautiful. I am not...
Read More. . . It’s all part of the discovery stage of learning art, so for this reason, I have no regrets—not over purchasing the first sets of each mediums, at least. The second, third, and/or fourth watercolor/gouache/colored pencil/etc. set, however? Yes, there’s plenty of guilt there. . .
It really has a way of shattering your sense of self-worth. Maybe it’s the act of condensing who you are onto a sheet of printer paper, only to have it tossed into the recycling bin. Or knowing that AI software combed through your application and deemed you thoroughly unworthy to even be assessed by a living, breathing person. . .
There are times when I love art my art. But these moments are rare. More often than not, I find myself fighting with my art. Frustrated because it doesn’t want to do what I tell it to. My hues repel one another. My inkwork is off beyond recovery. . .
Thanks for stopping by! This post features the la crème de la crème of my art roster. I began learning art in 2016, and still consider myself a novice. The type of supplies I go for are some of the most well-known and high-quality student-grade supplies, along with a sprinkle of artist-grade items. This is a dynamic post that reflects my current favorites. . .
So my message to you is to embrace your old art, appreciate your new art, and see the humor and growth that is inherent in anything that you have created or will create. Travelling through your art journey is meant to be exciting and rewarding, not exhausting and restrictive. Embrace the good, bad, and ugly of it all. . .
Before diving into my lake pigment exploits, I’d like to give credit where it’s due. What kickstarted this whole DIY journey was a YouTube video posted by Arleebean on paint making. She filmed the process of creating a watercolor binder and mulling store-bought pigments into them. I was in complete awe. . .
In the daytime, I’m Juli. Just a normal girl, with a normal life.
No, I’m not a bug-themed superhero—no matter how much I wish that were the case. I am, however, a slow jogger, a mother of two. . . parakeets, and an amateur artist!
This blog is both a hobby and an outlet of mine. Perhaps it’ll become something more in the future. Perhaps it won’t. Either way, my goal is to enjoy life—while fully embracing the ups and downs that come with pursuing a creative spark.
Thank you for stopping by my tiny corner of the internet. Whether you’re a fellow amateur artist in search of encouragement, or looking to make your own art supplies from scratch, I’m sure you’ll find a blog post that you connect with.
Warm regards,
Juli Rox
